Shoemaking experience
Join us for a day in our workshop and make your own pair of shoes.
We’ll guide you through the shoemaking process and through a combination of hands-on making and demonstrations, you'll create your own pair and gain an insight into the craft of shoemaking.
-
Spend a day in our Dartmoor workshop and discover what goes into making a pair of shoes by hand. You’ll gain an insight into the traditional techniques used to make our shoes, work with beautiful leather, and take part in key stages of the making process while seeing others demonstrated along the way. From pattern cutting and stitching to lasting and finishing, you’ll experience the journey from leather to finished shoe, learning about the materials, tools and stages involved.
Our sessions are relaxed, informal and suitable for beginners, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn more about the craft. Once your shoes are complete, we’ll add the soles and post them to you.
-
We run our shoemaking experiences in pairs, creating a relaxed and personal atmosphere. You can book as a pair, with a friend, or reserve a place for yourself.
-
All of the materials to make the shoes are provided, with a choice of colours and soles on the day.
-
Aprons are provided to protect your clothes, but do bear in mind you will be working with glue and sharp tools so please don't wear your favourite things. The workshop can get a bit cold in the winter, so you might want to bring some warmer layers too!
-
You can find our workshop at The Old Chapel, 26A Cross Street, Moretonhampstead, TQ13 8NL. The nearest car park is Station Road, a few minutes walk away.
